my husband has blisters on his penis. We have been together for 4 years, Can you go that long without an outbreak?

Herpes was never mentioned until today with the blisters. He says he had this long time past. Is it possible or very likely to go 4 years without an outbreak?

From what I understand is that, STDs/STIs can stay dormant for years.  He needs to at least check it out, because for all you know it could be a simple allergic reaction!
