Will a deep splinter work it's way out? Does soaking help?

Hi With a bit of luck if you leave it, it will fester, when it does this it will pus as swell, then if you open the end and squeeze it, the splinter will just come out with the pus, just soak it in some salt water, it should then heal all by itself quite quickly.
